5 PRETTY PASTEL PINKS
While we wait on the consensus of what to do about the walls in Charlotte’s new big girl room (wallpaper, paint, or both), we realized it’d be smart to go ahead and paint all four walls so we can at least see how we like the blush color! We can always wallpaper over it.
I scoured Pinterest, dug into my paint decks and came up with about a dozen I liked. I then quickly narrowed it down to five for sample cans, each in a different paint brand. This was for a few reasons.
First, the colors that made the cut all happened to be from different brands. In order to guarantee that you’ll end up with the exact same color you see on the swatch (or it’s sample can), you have to buy the Paint Color (name) in the Brand that made it. For example, I've personally been disappointed when I’ve gone in and had Home Depot color match a Ben Moore color. Are they close? Sure, but considering I’m comparing 5 similar blushes, the smallest variation matters.
Secondly, I was kinda curious to compare how the eggshell finish/sheen might vary between brands. Turns out “eggshell” is a little bit different across brands (to be expected). However, Benjamin Moore was the noticeable difference, whose eggshell appeared the most matte. In an ideal world, I’d just select matte paint, but the stuff cleans up terribly and, well… kids! Eggshell is just one step up with a very slight sheen and easier to clean. Less sheen (or glare) means less light is reflected off the wall and therefore the color/pigments show more true!
The 5 blush colors we tested:
Melted Ice Cream / Benjamin Moore Regal
Vision of Love / Behr Premium Plus
Gorgeous White / Sherwin Williams
Calamine / Farrow & Ball
Ella Rose / Magnolia Home x KILZ
The winner?!
Ben Moore’s Melted Ice Cream!
Not only did it have a more matte look, it showed the pure, or less muddy. Some of the other colors just didn’t pop and in comparison, had a slight washed-out look to them. I’m not sure why. Maybe it was just the color, maybe it has to do with Ben Moore’s formulation, perhaps they have higher quality pigments, or maybe it’s due to Melted Ice Cream’s higher LRV (light reflected value)…? Who knew paint could be so complicated!
Looking for a blush paint color? I definitely recommend any of these, but Melted Ice Cream sure is a pretty sweet treat! ;-)
